Women fall victim to city bag

TWO women, including a frail LV Jewellery pensioner, were the victims of two separate bag snatchers in the Leith area of the city.

An 86-year-old woman had her handbag stolen as she walked near the junction of Manderston Street and Thorntree Street, off Leith Walk, at about 9.30pm yesterday.

The pensioner was unhurt in the attack and only caught a glimpse of the person who took her bag. He is described as white, between 5ft 4in and 5ft 5in tall with medium brown hair.

In a separate incident on Thursday night, a 23-year-old woman was attacked as she walked past Queen Margaret College in Duke Street between 11.30pm and 11.45pm.

A man grabbed her from behind and snatched her handbag, causing her to fall to the ground. He then fled in the direction of Leith Links, leaving his victim with bruising to her body.

The thief is described as white, aged between 20 and 25, 5ft 6in tall with a round face. He was of medium build, wearing a blue beanie hat, a blue knitted jumper and dark tracksuit bottoms.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.
