Foreign students get a taste o

A GROUP of international business students have taken part in a research programme involving dozens of Glasgow companies.

The programme is run in partnership by Glasgow University and Cordia, a frontline service organisation.

pandora charms The 18 students, mostly from overseas, took part in a hands-on company visit to Cordia's Port Dundas headquarters.

They met management and had the opportunity for trips into the field to experience some of Cordia's 8,300 staff in action.

The students - from countries including India, Nigeria, Pakistan and China, and sectors from banking and IT to manufacturing and engineering - split into groups and experienced the sharp end of Cordia's operations.

Among the students on field trips was Iqbal Ahmad from India, who ran his own medical supplies business, visiting Cordia's alarm centre, which provides home alarms to the elderly throughout Glasgow.

Xing Zhao from China, who worked for an electronics firm at home, spent time with staff at the cafes run by Cordia's contract catering arm Encore at Scotstoun and Bellahouston Sports Centres and Olubukola Adebayo from Nigeria visited Encore's Cook Freeze Centre, the central meal production unit where fresh food is produced for all of Glasgow's schools.

David Melvin, operations director of Cordia said: "We are still a new company, and we need to develop the skills of our management in the coming years."
